Let me explain this through a story. A very skilled sculptor had got an assignment to make a statue that would have been placed very high on a pillar. He began his job enthusiastically, with full sincerity. Days passed and the statue slowly began to take a form. And this was being observed by a curious onlooker who used to pass by that route everyday. He used to watch the sculptor make that statue mindfully with full dedication. One day that special moment came when the statue was finally completed. Both the sculptor and the onlooker were looking at the completed statue and admiring its beauty. The onlooker then thanked the sculptor for his extraordinary workmanship and departed.
The very next day, the onlooker was passing by the same route where the completed statue was being made. To his surprise, he found the sculptor busy making another statue, enthusiastically, with full sincerity. Curiously he asked the sculptor whether he got another assignment? The sculptor calmly replied that he didn’t get any new assignment, rather he was again making the same statue. Hearing this, the onlooker became surprised and asked him the reason behind this. The sculptor replied that since by mistake the nose of the completed statue got damaged, he was again making another statue to finish his assignment as per his contract.
The onlooker was very surprised after hearing it and tried to convince the sculptor that it wasn’t necessary at all for the sculptor to make a new statue, since it would have been placed very high on a pillar, would anybody know if the nose of the statue was damaged or not? To this argument the sculptor coolly replied “I would know!” Then the sculptor again became busy in his work and the onlooker just couldn’t pass by without thanking the sculptor’s honesty.
The Konark Sun Temple was built by such honest and skilled sculptors for whom their work was worship. It is reflected through their sculptures all over the Sun Temple, especially through the attached image of a “Surasundari” that was placed very high on the Jagamohana. Its beautiful nose, lips and fine ornaments tell a lot about the sculptors’ dedication and honesty since they knew it would be placed very high on the Sun Temple, yet they gave their best without compromising with their art! And it is not impossible that any such statue wouldn’t have been damaged on the course and in its place any new statue wouldn’t have been resculpted! And it is the reason why the architecture of Konark Sun Temple is so spellbinding ..
[This moral lesson is applicable to all walks of life. Those who know this lesson, will not do anything wrong even if nobody is watching or hesitate to help someone even if they know well that they would not get anything in return. And if you haven’t learnt this lesson, you have not lived life!]
କୋଣାର୍କର ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିରର ସ୍ଥାପତ୍ୟ ଏତେ ଜୀବନ୍ତ କାହିଁକି ?
ଏହାର ଉତ୍ତର ମୁଁ ଏକ ଗଳ୍ପ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ଦେବି । ଏକଦା ଏକ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଏକ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ନିର୍ମାଣର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ପାଇଲେ ଯାହାକି ଏକ ସୁଉଚ୍ଚ ସ୍ତମ୍ଭ ଉପରେ ସ୍ଥାପିତ ହୋଇଥାନ୍ତା । ସେ ତାଙ୍କର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଉତ୍ସାହ ଓ ଆନ୍ତରିକତାର ସହିତ ଆରମ୍ଭ କଲେ । ଦିନ ପରେ ଦିନ ବିତି ଚାଲିଲା ଓ ଧୀରେ ଧୀରେ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟି ଏକ ରୂପ ନେବାକୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ କଲା । ଏ ସମସ୍ତ ଜିନିଷ ସେହି ବାଟ ଦେଇ ଯାଉଥିବା ଏକ ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟହ ଦେଖୁଥିଲେ । ସେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣଙ୍କୁ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗୀକୃତ ମନୋଭାବ ଓ ଏକାଗ୍ରତାର ସହ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିକୁ ଗଢ଼ୁଥିବାର ଲକ୍ଷ୍ୟ କରୁଥିଲେ । ଦିନେ ସେହି ଦିବ୍ୟ ମୁହୂର୍ତ୍ତ ଆଗତ ହେଲା ଯେତେବେଳେ କି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟି ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହେଲା । ଉଭୟ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଓ ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିକୁ ଅନାଇ ତାହାର ସୌନ୍ଦର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ଅଭିଭୂତ ହେଉଥାନ୍ତି । ଏହାପରେ ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ଜଣକ ଶିଳ୍ପୀଙ୍କୁ ତାଙ୍କର ଅଦ୍ଭୁତ କାରିଗରୀ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ଦେଇ ନିଜ ରାସ୍ତାରେ ଚାଲିଲେ ।
ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ଦିନ ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ଜଣକ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ସେହି ରାସ୍ତାରେ ଯାଉଥିବା ସମୟରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣଙ୍କୁ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ଏକ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଉତ୍ସାହ ଓ ଆନ୍ତରିକତାର ସହିତ ନିର୍ମାଣ କରୁଥିବାର ଦେଖିଲେ । ଉତ୍ସୁକତାର ସହ ସେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀଙ୍କୁ ପଚାରିଲେ ସେ କୌଣସି ଏକ ନୂତନ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ପାଇଛନ୍ତି କି ? ଏହାର ଉତ୍ତରରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣକ ଧୀର ସହକାରେ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ – ‘ନା’, ସେ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ସେହି ସମାନ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ହିଁ ନିର୍ମାଣ କରୁଛନ୍ତି । ଏହା ଶୁଣି ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ଜଣକ ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟଚକିତ ହୋଇଗଲେ ଏବଂ ଶିଳ୍ପୀଙ୍କୁ ଏହାର କାରଣ ସମ୍ପର୍କରେ ପଚାରିଲେ । ଉତ୍ତରରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣକ କହିଲେ ଯେ ଯେହେତୁ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୋଇଥିବା ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିର ନାକ ଅସାବଧାନତା ହେତୁ ଭାଙ୍ଗିଗଲା, ତେଣୁ ସେ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ଏକ ନୂତନ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ନିର୍ମାଣ କରୁଛନ୍ତି ନିଜର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ସମ୍ପାଦନ କରିବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ।
ଏହା ଶୁଣି ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ଜଣକ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟ ହୋଇ ଶିଳ୍ପୀଙ୍କୁ ବୁଝାଇବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କଲେ ଯେ ତାଙ୍କ ପକ୍ଷେ ଏପରି କରିବାର କୌଣସି ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ନାହିଁ, କାରଣ ସେହି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟି ଏକ ସୁଉଚ୍ଚ ସ୍ତମ୍ଭ ଉପରେ ସ୍ଥାପିତ ହେବ, ଏଣୁ କିଏ ଜାଣିବ ଯେ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିର ନାକ ଭଙ୍ଗିଛି ବୋଲି ? ଉତ୍ତରରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣକ କହିଲେ ଯେ – “ମୁଁ ଜାଣିବି ।” ଏହାପରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଜଣକ ପୁନର୍ବାର ନିଜ କାମରେ ବ୍ୟସ୍ତ ହୋଇଗଲେ ଏବଂ ଦେଖଣାହାରୀ ଜଣକ ଶିଳ୍ପୀଙ୍କୁ ତାଙ୍କର ସଚ୍ଚୋଟତା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରଶଂସା ନକରି ରହିପାରିଲେ ନାହିଁ ।
କୋଣାର୍କର ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିର ଏହିପରି ସଚ୍ଚୋଟ ଓ ଦକ୍ଷ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ନିର୍ମିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା ଯେଉଁମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସେମାନଙ୍କ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଆରାଧନା ସଦୃଶ ଥିଲା । ଏବଂ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ଏହି ବିଚାରଧାରା କୋଣାର୍କ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିରର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିରେ ପରିଲକ୍ଷିତ, ବିଶେଷ କରି ସଂଲଗ୍ନ “ସୁରସୁନ୍ଦରୀ” ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିରେ ଯାହାକି ଜଗମୋହନରେ, ସୁଉଚ୍ଚ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ସ୍ଥାପିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା । ଏହି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟିର କମନୀୟ ନାସା, ଓଷ୍ଠ ଓ ଅଳଙ୍କାର ଶିଳ୍ପୀକୁଳର ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗୀକୃତ ମନୋଭାବ ଓ ସଚ୍ଚୋଟତାର ସ୍ଵାକ୍ଷର ବହନ କରେ, କାରଣ ସେମାନେ ଏହି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଟି ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଉଚ୍ଚ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ସ୍ଥାପିତ ହେବାର ଜାଣି ମଧ୍ୟ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ଶିଳ୍ପକଳାର ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ନିଦର୍ଶନ ଦେବାରେ ତିଳେ ମାତ୍ର କୁଣ୍ଠା ବୋଧ କରିନାହାନ୍ତି । ଏହା ଅସମ୍ଭବ ମଧ୍ୟ ହୋଇନପାରେ ଯେ ଏହି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ପାଇଁ କୌଣସି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଖଣ୍ଡିତ ହୋଇନଥିବ ଓ ତାହା ସ୍ଥାନରେ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ଏକ ନୂତନ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ନିର୍ମିତ ହୋଇନଥିବ । ଏହା ହିଁ କୋଣାର୍କର ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିରର ସ୍ଥାପତ୍ୟ ଗୁଡିକର ଏତେ ଜୀବନ୍ତ ହେବାର ରହସ୍ୟ ।
[ଏହି ସାରାଂଶ ଜୀବନର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଉପଯୋଗୀ । ଯେଉଁମାନେ ଜୀବନର ଏହି ମର୍ମଟିକୁ ବୁଝିଛନ୍ତି, ସେମାନେ ଜୀବନରେ କୌଣସି ଭୁଲ କାମ କେବେହେଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ କରିବେ ନାହିଁ, କୌଣସି ଲୋକ ସେମାନଙ୍କ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକୁ ତଦାରଖ କରୁନଥିଲେ କିମ୍ବା ଦେଖୁନଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ । ସେମାନେ ଜୀବନରେ କାହାକୁ ସାହାଯ୍ୟ କରିବାକୁ କେବେହେଲେ କୁଣ୍ଠାବୋଧ କରିବେ ନାହିଁ ଏହା ଜାଣି ମଧ୍ୟ ଯେ ଏହାର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟୁତ୍ତରରେ ସେମାନେ କିଛି ମଧ୍ୟ ଲାଭ ପାଇବେ ନାହିଁ । ଏବଂ ଆପଣ ଯଦି ଜୀବନର ଏହି ମର୍ମଟିକୁ ବୁଝିନାହାନ୍ତି, ତେବେ ଆପଣ ଜୀବନ ଜୀଇଁ ନାହାନ୍ତି ।]
